Writer, Editor & Director
Abid Khan is a self-taught filmmaker, whose debut feature film was released in theatrically in 20+ UK cinemas (2021) and 10+ Spain cinemas (2022). He was selected for BIFA Springboard 2023 and also the only director to be selected by Adobe UK “Creative Change” campaign. He had been profiled in The Guardian and New York Times after being announced by Head of Film4, Daniel Battsek as a “Director to watch”. Abid is the founder of Eyefive Films, a film studio that tells self-discovery stories, with a particular focus on diverse characters and cultures.
Being a child of Pakistani working class immigrants, he spent most of his early teenage years juggling jobs, working in factories and a small local cinema. This is where his film education and passion for storytelling began and where he cultivated his love for film narrative and visual aesthetics. This passion led to a Master of Arts degree and a 20+ year freelance career in digital design and video marketing, working on global brand campaigns at over 70+ advertising agencies in NYC, London and Berlin.
He spent several years travelling and living abroad. This experience and his mixed background gives him a unique insight into different cultures and visual aesthetics, which is evident in his work today. His debut feature film, Granada Nights is a feat of cinematic ambition where he used a cinematography technique that has never been used before in the history of cinema. With his background in digital advertising and film narratives, he mixes art with commercialism. Abid brushes with a light subtle touch; his work imbued with a real innocence and his work presents a heartfelt examination of the process of self-discovery with a particular focus on diverse characters and cultures.
